Multi-page find and replace in WordPress: clear stale details in one pass

How many pages still carry the old phone number, address or price? Find them first, then replace in one operation. Partial failures and caching traps explained.

1

Find first, replace second

The phone number changed, the office moved or the price list was updated, and the old detail lives on in a corner of eighteen different pages. Opening every page by hand in WordPress takes hours and a few pages always slip through.

The right order is: first get the complete list for “which pages contain the old number?”, then replace. In Tecrube's WordPress connection these are two separate steps. The search scans content rather than page titles and lists every match with its page name and surrounding context.

2

Three checks before replacing

First, does the match count fit your expectation? If a number you believed was on three pages shows up on thirty, a footer or template fragment is probably embedded in the content. Second, are there partial matches? Searching for “0212 555” can catch part of another number.

Third, format variations: the same number may be written with spaces on one page, without on another and with a country code on a third. Search each variation separately. In Tecrube the replace request arrives as a preview: you see line by line which text on which page becomes what, then approve.

3

The silent trap in bulk writes

Update twenty pages in one operation and seventeen may succeed while three fail: a locked page, a plugin conflict or a permission issue. A poor tool glosses over this as “done”; the old number stays on three pages and you find out when a customer calls.

Tecrube reports each page's result separately: updated, not updated, and why. Content edits are written to WordPress's own revision history, so a wrong change can be rolled back page by page.

4

If the change does not show on the site

The database is updated but visitors still see the old number. Check in order: the page cache plugin, server-side cache, CDN and browser cache. In most cases clearing the cache is enough, and with Tecrube's WordPress tools that step can be triggered from chat as well.

There is also the template trap: the number may live in theme settings, a widget or a custom field of a page-builder block rather than in page content. If find-and-replace scans only the content field, those places never appear in the list; when the search returns fewer results than expected, look there first.

5

A rollback plan: know it before you change anything

The safest habit in bulk changes is knowing the way back before the operation. WordPress keeps a revision for every content edit, and the changes Tecrube makes are written to that same revision history. A wrong replacement is undone per page with “restore previous version”; you do not need to roll the whole site back from a backup.

Still, take three precautions. First, limit the first run to three to five pages; see the result, then do the rest. Second, compare the match count in the replace preview with the search result; if the numbers differ, something is being caught too little or too much. Third, check two or three pages on the live site by eye afterwards.

If the number of revisions is capped (some themes or plugins limit it), check that setting before a bulk operation; otherwise you may have fewer restore points than you expect.

6

Where else this flow earns its keep

A brand rename, internal links moved to a new domain, removing a discontinued product's name, price wording changed by a tax rate, and expired campaign banners are all cleaned with the same flow. For advertisers the most critical case is outdated offer copy on landing pages: if the ad quotes the new price and the page shows the old one, conversion drops.

In Tecrube the WordPress connection opens by installing the Connector plugin on your site and linking it from the member panel (/app). It works in the same chat as your ad accounts, so you can update the ad copy first and the landing page right after in one session.
