Google Ads MCP: Google's official MCP versus Tecrube

Google ships an official MCP server for Google Ads. According to its own documentation the current release is positioned as an open-source developer tool for reading and reporting account data; setup and hosting are the user's responsibility.

Tecrube is a hosted connector: you add one address to Claude or ChatGPT, sign in with Google, and not only read Google Ads but change it through a preview-and-approve flow. Meta, Microsoft, TikTok, LinkedIn and five Google tools join the same chat.

The biggest difference: reading versus changing

With Google's MCP you can ask “which campaigns spent the most this week?” and get an answer. But when you say “add the irrelevant terms as negatives”, the release its docs describe does not do it. Analysis ends, and you do the work by hand in the dashboard.

In Tecrube the same chat continues. It reviews the search terms, shows the suggested negatives as a preview; if you approve, it applies them and writes the audit log. Budget increases are capped at 50% per step.

  • Create campaigns, ad groups and responsive search ads
  • Change budgets, bid strategies and schedules
  • Keywords, negative lists, audience and location targeting
  • Conversion actions and offline conversion uploads

The setup difference

Google's docs describe running the server on your own machine or deploying it to your own infrastructure; credentials, API access and maintenance are yours. A sensible path for technical teams building an internal agent.

With Tecrube setup is one address. Settings → Connectors in Claude, developer mode in ChatGPT; paste the address, sign in with Google, authorise the account. No token, cloud project or server; about 60 seconds.

Which should you choose?

  • Choose Google's official MCP if your goal is only to read Google Ads data and running your own MCP infrastructure is fine for you.
  • Choose Tecrube if you want approved changes in the account beyond reading, other ad platforms plus Analytics, Search Console and Tag Manager in the same chat, and no setup.

One example

Command: “Find search terms that spent without converting in the last 30 days and add the irrelevant ones as negatives.”

A read-only tool does the first half: it lists the terms. The second half stays with you. Tecrube lists the terms, offers the negatives as a preview, applies them with your approval and keeps the record.
